Ski Staycation

At the beginning of September we headed about 45 minutes west into the mountains to stay at our local ski lodge for a few days rest and fun and hopefully some skiing as well. Weather wise it was mixed, some ok weather, some heavy snowfall making skiing impossible and an amazing bluebird day.

The kid came down with an absolutely raging cold on the first day. A real doozy on a kid who usually throws them off with no trouble. A huge sleep and some nurafen saw her bounce back for a few hours the next morning and have a couple of hours fun before some serious snow fall set in and we retreated back to the lodge for hot drinks, books, board games and snuggling up with an audiobook for the kid. And some excellent food!

The next day dawned bright and clear and beautiful and after starting with us the kid moved onto skiing with an instructor so she could head up and ski the jumps and the higher mountain. Hubby can ski up there but I very definitely am a low slope skier and we have always found that when doing something new and a little nerve racking its best to head off with a professional rather than mum or dad! She skied morning and afternoon and ended the day with homemade (but not by me!) lasagne and chips by a warm fire and a early night.

Our last morning dawned bright but cold and windy so we decided to end our staycation on the high of the day before and slowly head home over the hills with a stop in for coffee and plenty of time once home to sort laundry, make a nice supper and for the kid to watch a movie after her enforced media ban while on staycation.

It was such a lovely break away, close enough that coming home was quick and easy and didn’t tire in the way that some of the big drives back from other trips away can do. It’s a type of break away we will definitely do again.

with a place like this one, no need to go further away on vacations! but the truth is, when it’s too cold, it’s better to stay home next to the fireplace 🙂
